If you could map your college journey through your search history, what would it say? From “What is campus life really like?” to “Will I find my place?” the questions are real and so are the answers.
Using the “Google board” trend, Sarah, a first-year student at 㽶Ƶ, shares what life at FPU is really like.
In this Q&A, she offers an honest look at how community, faith and fun shape the college experience.
Meet Sarah:
Sarah Jenkins is a first-year pre-health major and Paragon Scholar at 㽶Ƶ. She answers some of the most common questions students have about FPU.
Q: What is the biggest myth about FPU?
A: Probably that you have to be religious to come here. You don’t need to have a religious affiliation to come to FPU, there are a lot of people here that aren't religious. But it is a really good way to find your place in religion. Or just to find your place.
Q: Is it weird if I don't know anyone before coming to FPU?
A: Absolutely not! You're going to meet so many people. You can come in completely blind and you'll probably make friends within the first ten minutes.
Q: What makes the community unique?
A: We have a very small community. In some ways that may be seen as, “I'm not going to meet a lot of people.” No, you're going to meet a lot of people and you're going to know everyone on campus. You're going to walk around and be like, “Oh my gosh, I know them!”
Q: Be honest, is FPU actually fun?
A: Yes! Within the second week of coming here, we all went to a trampoline park just to have fun. It is fun. It is. Trust me. So much fun!
Q: Okay, is FPU actually worth it?
A: I think so. Between the social activity and the classroom time, you get so much attention from professors and it really is such a wonderful community! Once a week we go to Chapel, which I think is refreshing. There are also a lot of different clubs and groups that you can be part of–so yes, it's worth it. Trust me.
Q: How has FPU helped me to achieve my goals?
A: I'm still working on my goals, but FPU has helped me find them! I have grown so much closer to the Lord being here. Academic wise, I have fallen in love with my career choice and I feel much more confident going into nursing because of FPU.
Q: Is FPU really a Christian university?
A: I would say it is. But I'd also say, you don't have to be a Christian to come here. You're not forced into anything you don't want to do. It’s ok to have different religions, you’ll definitely be accepted here. FPU doesn’t push you towards any one ideology; it teaches you about different ideologies, which I think is really cool.
Q: What is the deal with the squirrels?
A: Guys, we love the squirrels. Me and my friends call them Sandy cheeks.
Bye! Bye!
